Our three-part season, Nothing/Something/Everything, was an exercise in risk and experimentation, as our young company members explored the possibilities of improvisational dance practice. Each work had its own unique focus, with Nothing perhaps the most daunting. After removing the lights, costume and most importantly the music, the dancers were left with nothing to compel them or hide behind other than their own bodies and their own decisions.

For the uninitiated, an improvised performance means literally everything you see is made up on the spot. Nothing had been rehearsed or planned. The dancers used their skills and connection with one another to make decisions about how and where they moved.

"Tonight’s performance may fail. It may have moments that are awkward, or boring. But it may also have moments of surprise and beauty, that are intriguing or insightful. What you see, another person may not. What they enjoy, you may not. All of this is what makes this performance idea so interesting."
